Lumbar Spine

The lumbar spine, or lower back, consists of the five vertebrae between the pelvis and the thoracic spine and is largely dependent on muscle function to maintain its stability.

The lower back, in conjunction with the pelvis, provides the foundation for your postural stability whilst cycling. Preventative stretching of the hip and back muscles is vital to minimise the occurrence of lower back symptoms but excessive reach or drop to the handlebars, saddle discomfort, muscle fatigue and recurrent lower back injuries are common factors that can trigger symptoms in this region.
