Cervical Spine

The cervical spine, or neck, consists of the seven vertebrae above the thoracic spine that support and move the head.

The inclined position of the upper body whilst cycling and the need to tilt the head to maintain forward vision both place an increased demand on your neck muscles compared to normal sitting and standing postures. Bike fit and postural awareness both have a significant influence on minimising strain and discomfort in this region but age-related spinal degeneration can certainly impose limitations on the riding position.
